On a positive note, there were no typos or misspellings that I came across... the writing was correct but oddly soulless. It didn't ring true to how teenagers think or communicate. Lots of adjectives and adverbs and pedantic descriptions that mired it in a fantasy of teenage years but not the real thing. But, it seems that many reviewers have enjoyed it, so it may just be me. Read a sample first if you can... If you are used to more literate writing you may struggle with getting into it - but if you are not that picky it might be right up your alley. The idea is interesting and perhaps it improves as you get further into it. Absolutely loved the Fairmont Boys Series! This is coming from someone who literally does not like to read. After reading the first book, it left me wanting more and then realizing there were 5 books in the series was a great surprise. The only disappointment was getting to the end of the 5th book and still wanting more. I grew up in rural small town Texas and evening though this was fiction, it was yet so real and brought back the good and bad memories from my childhood. It also made me think about what I could have done differently to be myself and enjoy life to the fullest. Reading some of the other reviews, there were critiques about the simplicity, type of words chosen, etc, but to me the book was perfect. It was very difficult for me to put the ‘book’ down. I cannot wait to see what Jay comes out with next and hopefully later on will add a book or book(s) to this series.
